Bumper-to-bumper warranty could protect shoppers from cars with electronics failure
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
As the systems that run cars become more complicated, vehicles are more susceptible than ever to breakdown. While this is an issue that bumper-to-bumper warranty owners don't need to concern themselves with, other drivers need to know what is going on inside their vehicle.
Nearly all new vehicles now come with an electronic system that runs parts of the car. Automakers are quickly learning that when these systems fail, it can lead to disaster.
Toyota has had numerous problems with electronic systems in their cars. They've recently stopped selling the Lexus LS 400 and LS600h luxury sedans after realizing that electronics could cause the steering wheel to fall out of alignment.
The company also had problems with sticking accelerators, which Toyota claims was not tied to the car's electronics. However, Congress has criticized Toyota's investigation of the issue as not being thorough enough. The company has recalled more than 8 million cars this year, and several other automakers have issued major recalls as well.
Until the auto industry gets a handle on their electronics problems, drivers need to protect themselves and their vehicles from a costly breakdown. What better way to do that than with a full bumper-to-bumper warranty from a trusted company like AA Auto Protection?
