California Prius driver reports stuck accelerator on highway
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
It appears that Toyota's problem with stuck accelerator pedals are failing to go away.
A Toyota Prius, which is the car manufacturer's flagship hybrid vehicle, recently experienced unintended acceleration on a California highway in San Diego County.
The driver, James Sikes, called 911 during the incident and reportedly had to be coached by a patrol officer who arrived at the scene on how to finally stop the car, BusinessWeek reports.
When speaking to NBC about the experience, Sikes said his foot was "on the brakes pretty healthy" in an attempt to slow the out-of-control car down.
"It wasn't stopping," Sikes said. "It wasn't doing anything to it. It just kept speeding up."
There is still an ongoing investigation into Toyota's vehicles about what could be causing the unintended acceleration. However, the incident may be a reminder for car owners that purchasing extra protection for their car in the form of an extended car warranty might be a good plan.
This kind of additional protection can be useful for managing car repair costs, which can be quite expensive when things like the engine stop working properly.
