Extended auto warranty for long distance driving
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
When General Motors was bailed out by the government more than a year ago, the American automaker had to slash thousands of manufacturing jobs in its ranks. Faced with bleak opportunities near their homes, some GM employees have started working across states, even if it means driving more than 16-plus hours and 1,000 miles round trip to see their families on weekends, the Associated Press reports.
Extended auto warranties can be very helpful in this case. Long distance driving exacts a heavy toll on the car's tires, engine and hundreds of other car parts, and demands more frequent maintenance check ups to ensure driving safety and efficiency. Worse, for any wear-and-tear related issues, warranties from the dealership do not provide coverage and motorists have to shoulder the expenses to keep their cars running.
These are the tough times and any additional out-of-pocket expense is an unnecessary burden to motorists, especially to those who follow their jobs hundreds of miles away. The money spent to buy extended warranty can easily be paid off in one or two repairs. And with so much repair risks that comes with long distance driving, that's real value for your money.
