Extended car warranty saves the day for daily drivers
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
About 8 million Americans spend an hour driving to work each day. These motorists feel not only every swing in gas prices but the fact that every mile they drive brings them closer to the usual 36,000-mile warranty limit. Motorists are better off buying an extended car warranty, which could continue the coverage on car parts after manufacturers relinquish their responsibility.
Daily driving exacts a heavy toll on cars and it can be pretty scary especially for those who are neither a mechanic nor interested in doing the dirty work. The engine becomes more prone to overheating, and sometimes it won't crank or start. Then comes oil or aircon leaks, bad brakes, vacuum problems, loose bolts and nuts, worn-out brake pads or suspension and the list goes on. Car problems start to arise, which means motorists have to prepare their wallet for higher maintenance bills.
With an average repair cost of $1,500, it is a better idea to get a five-year extended warranty or another 100,000-mile guarantee that costs roughly the same. Of course, extended auto warranties come in different shapes and sizes, so depending on the buyer's driving needs, motorists should check what plan would give them the greatest return. For those who commute daily to work, for instance, it may be more beneficial to buy an extended car warranty that offers more mileage than years.
The bottom line is an extended car warranty is an added security worth consideration for daily commuters. No one wants to worry about the cost of repairs on top of the daily grind of work and other financial pressures.
