Five worst cities for car repairs revealed
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
In what may inspire more car owners to look into extended car warranties, the five worst cities to get auto repairs, based on fairness, was recently revealed.
The research was generated from a report by AutoMD.com and came thanks to mystery shoppers visiting up to 600 different shops in each city to ask for quotes. The repair was the same across the board: brake replacement for a Ford Focus.
The survey ranked each city on: the average price of the estimates, the difference between the highest and lowest prices, and whether the repair shop would change its estimate by 5 percent when a customer called back with an industry standard estimate.
According to the survey, the five cities that gave out higher-than-average quotes were: Raleigh, North Carolina; Washington, D.C.; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Honolulu, Hawaii and Chicago, Illinois.
While car repairs may be an inevitably process of owning a vehicle, people have a choice in how those costs can affect their budget by either shopping around for a better quote or by purchasing an extended car warranty.
Those who do go the warranty route can manage car repair costs, which may be important to those who are watching their budget during the weakened economy.
