Flooding in Northeast may negatively affect car's performance
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
This past weekend, the Northeast was again pounded by severe weather with torrential downpours that flooded roads in several states, leaving some cars stranded in the street.
According to the Associated Press, more than half a million homes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut lost power during the storm that brought heavy rains and wind that reached up to 70 mph.
In Massachusetts, some districts closed schools on Monday because heavy flooding in the streets would have barred most cars from getting through.
During weather that brings this much rain, car owners should be aware of the potential for water damage to their car, particularly with flooded streets. Heaving flooding can seep into the vehicle and affect the braking system.
Some car experts suggest that owners pay close attention to the way their car runs after being exposed to heavy rain and flooded streets, and to be aware of any suspicious noises the vehicle makes while it is running.
Since flooding is a risk almost everywhere in the U.S., many people have purchased extended car warranties as a way to help them with the cost of various repairs that their vehicle may need due to the damage it incurs from adverse weather.
