Selectmen revoke used car dealer's license
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
A used car dealer in Whitman, Massachusetts, has had his license to sell revoked after selectmen found that he was engaging in questionable sales practices. Drivers who buy a used car warranty can protect themselves from break downs resulting from poorly maintained vehicles.
Priced Right Auto, and its owner Steven Emery, first came to the attention of Whitman selectmen after they found the dealership was operating without a license. In November, the board granted Emery a provisional license but reserved the right to revoke it if they received one complaint about the business.
Since that time, the board received six complaints about the business. One driver demanded a full refund for a 2000 Jaguar bought at the dealership. The customer's bill of sale didn't match the one presented by Emery, prompting one selectmen to say that he didn't believe the company was even maintaining sales records.
Another woman took her complaint all the way to small claims court, where she won. Emery didn't show for the case, saying his car broke down.
"Quite frankly, I feel like I have to take a shower after I am done here," selectman Brian Bezanson told the news source.
With some unscrupulous dealers working against them, consumers need a name they can trust in the auto business, like AA Auto Protection. By purchasing a bumper-to-bumper warranty for their car, they can be protected in case of break down.
