Snowstorm in the Southeast may prompt more extended car warranties
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
It seems that almost every part of the U.S. has been impacted by a large snowstorm this winter, which may inspire some truck owners to start looking into purchasing extended warranties for their vehicles.
On March 2, parts of the Southeast experienced significant snowfall that forced some airlines to cancel flights and schools to cancel classes.
Throughout most of the day, a winter storm warning was in effect for parts of Georgia, as well as North and South Carolina. Some forecasters even predicted up to 6 inches were to fall.
While the Northeast may be used to such weather reports, this weather can be seen as fairly unconventional for southern states, which are not known for getting snow in March.
Though residents were protected with heavy winter coats, some car owners worry at how the weather may affect their vehicles, and whether or not it could cause enough damage that would warrant future car repairs.
To gain peace of mind, some car owners have purchased extended car warranties as a way to protect their car, as well as to ensure that repair costs don't get too high.
