August is the High Season for Vacations and Auto Repairs
Sometimes called an "extended warranty", a service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs or services. Although technically not a “warranty” as defined by federal law, service contracts may be arranged at any time and always costs extra. Warranties, on the other hand, ONLY come with a new car and are included in the original price. Vehicle service contracts are popularly referred to as "extended auto warranties" or "extended warranties". Use of the term "extended warranty" or "warranty" on this site is intended to refer to vehicle service contracts and not manufacturer's warranties.
August - one month before school starts again, and the long descent into winter. People make the most of the waning days of summer, driving to places not quite as pleasant as they will be in winter. But, as more cars drive, more break down. That makes August a busy season not only for motels, but for mechanics. Packing an extended auto warranty can be more valuable than the sun block. Jimmy Cannon and his family live only 52 miles from the New Jersey shore. The drive only takes about an hour. Heading to the beach twice a month during the summer is a Cannon family ritual, which he, his wife, and 3 children enjoy. Why not go as often as they do, it feels so close. But one hot August last year, the beach felt like 5200 miles away. It was the day the family car broke down. "Even though we've been coming here for years, we didn't really know anyone," said Cannon. "We didn't know who to ask about a good shop to take the car, or what to do. Then my wife remembered the car warranty." Jim's wife, Karen, purchased an extended vehicle warranty for Jim as peace of mind, since Jim drives frequently for work. "We called the extended warranty place, and they were awesome. She recommended a local shop, and told us what to do to get the car fixed, and for them to pay the bill." The problem was an alternator, and repairing it cost $624. But because it was covered by the Cannon's auto warranty, it didn't cost them a dime. As they return to the shore this August, once again it seems as close as ever, with one difference, said Jim: "This year, I'm making sure that we've got that warranty paper with us. Don't leave home without it!" Extended auto warranty brokers such as AA Auto Protection offer a wide range of plans and prices, for practically every car on the road. A quality auto warranty can help ensure that, no matter how far from home you are, if you're vehicle breaks down, you won't be lost.
